Contains the first printing of Twain's speech at the dedication of the new town hall in 1894, plus the text of his wonderful letter about libraries and books. L.] Kimcraft [?] MARK TWAIN DOLL [n.p., n.d., probably Independence, Missouri: Kimport Doll Co., ca. 1930] Papier mache or composition doll of Mark Twain, with good detail, dressed in white suit. Some siling. Made by Kimcraft (aka Kimport) which sold character dolls of this kind, each made by individual local artisans. Kimcraft was started by Mr. and Mrs. McKim of Independence, Missouri, after they saw some well-made dolls during a European vacation and decided to begin an import business. The Twain dolls were part of their "American type" series, all made in America.

First edition, first printings (with "H-Y" the correct code letters), state A with ads at end of second volume (no priority). Original blue cloth, gilt, top edge gilt, dust jackets, in original publisher's box. Very fine fresh set in near fine dust jackets, the box somewhat worn and dusty but solid. This work was a bestseller in 1924 and when the first volume of the complete Autobiography was published in 2010 it also became a bestseller. BAL 3537.

MARK TWAIN DOLL [Hannibal, Missouri, n.d., circa 1940-1952] Handmade papier mache doll of Mark Twain, dressed in a suit, black shoes, ten inches tall, with flexible arms and legs (a feature that makes this doll especially attractive --Twain can easily be posed to stand on his head, sit on a bookshelf, hang from a light fixture, do splits, practice Yoga, etc.). Wilma Eubank Pulliam made dolls in Hannibal and sold them as souvenirs; they were among the first Mark Twain dolls ever made, and each was slightly different from the others.

Co., ca. 1913-1931] Tin advertising sign, 10 x 28 inches, printed in raised red letters on a yellow background, within red border. This is the sign used to advertise the five cent cigars whose unused inner box labels are commonly seen; the sign is quite scarce, the result of a small cache of these signs found years ago inside the wall of a house. Original vegetable vellum white boards, gilt, uncut. A hint of dust to white covers, else a very fine copy of this slender volume. Dickens began writing this sketch in 1847 to raise additional money in a benefit for Leigh Hunt who was destitute at the time.
