About This Item

[TWAIN, MARK] [Clemens, S. L.] Kimcraft [?] MARK TWAIN DOLL [n.p., n.d., probably Independence, Missouri: Kimport Doll Co., ca. 1930] Papier mache or composition doll of Mark Twain, with good detail, dressed in white suit. Some siling. Made by Kimcraft (aka Kimport) which sold character dolls of this kind, each made by individual local artisans. Kimcraft was started by Mr. and Mrs. McKim of Independence, Missouri, after they saw some well-made dolls during a European vacation and decided to begin an import business. The Twain dolls were part of their "American type" series, all made in America.
