About This Item
[TWAIN, MARK] [Clemens, S. L.] James, George Wharton. MARK TWAIN, AN APPRECIATION OF HIS PIONEER WRITINGS ON FASTING AND HEALTH. Pasadena, California: Radiant Life Press, 1919. 8pp., folio, illustrated with four previously unpublished photographs of Twain. First edition, an offprint from the May, 1919 issue of `Physical Culture.' Self-wrapper. Nearly fine. This was privately printed by James, whose ads for his own books cover the last two pages. James quotes liberally from Twain's works, and gives an amazing account of how he came to get Twain to pose for the four photographs reproduced here. A very rare piece. Unrecorded by BAL and Johnson. The Willard Morse collection (now at Yale) had a copy. No copies in Koundakjian, Cornman, Freeman, the Mark Twain Memorial, Williams, Merron, or other major collections.
