Hardcover. Fair. Approximatley 170 photos plus several illustrations cut from unknown sources. Photos are almost all in corner mounts and generally measure approximately 11 x 6cm. or smaller. Quality of the photos varies but generally clear with decent detail. Most photos or groups of photos have some sort of captioning or identifying article nearby. A few album leaves are detached and there are missing photos here and there. Scuffed oblong tied album with faux reptilian patterning (approximately 30 x 22cm.). Our soldier says he was inducted in Sept. 1942, arrived in Algeria in Nov. 1943 (about 14 photos) and was sent on to India early in 1944 and was mostly there until he left for the U.S in June 1945. 1944. Photo Album. Good. 53 photos. Most are pasted down; 12 inserted in corner mounts or slits. At least 12 views of Bulawayo appear to have been purchased. Most of the rest appear to be amateur photos although the album begins with 12 photos of Durban which could have been purchased. Size varies but these are not large photos. Most range from 9 x 6cm. down to 6 x 6cm. A few are a bit larger. Decent detail although a handful are blurry. Almost all photos captioned in white ink on album pages. Small tied album in softcover wrapper. 20 x 15cm. The 14 photos of Durban seems to be standard tourist fare as are the 12 smaller and less common photos of Bulawayo. Most interesting are the 11 photos of the Hillside ITW Camp Bulawayo and some training shots, followed by 12 photos taken in or near a mission at Penhalonga.

Also present is a recent owner's bookplate on endpaper. Contents sound and clean with just a little age-toning and foxing. Grant's scarce account of his travels with Speke to confirm the source of the Nile.

Griffin (and his wife Marion Mahony Griffin) created the original design for Canberra, Australia's capital city of Canberra, which was built after the various Australian colonies joined together in 1901 and decided to create a new inland city to serve as Australia's seat of government. Most of the Griffin's later achitectural work was done in Australia and India.
