Herbert was associated with the Metaphysical Poets and is one of the premier British religious lyricists.

This is the standard classic work on the Selkirks, covering the geography and history of the region as well as the ascent of the peaks; the Author was first to ascend Mount Sir Sandford together with his partner Holway and was a pioneer climber in the Rockies.
