London; William Heinemann Ltd, 1954., 1954. Hard Cover. FIRST EDITION. Octavo, pp. [6], 239, [1]. Publishers' black cloth with gilt titles to spine in unclipped pictorial dust-jacket. Cover cloth damp-stained and endpapers toned & a little foxed otherwise a clean tight copy, with no annotation or inscriptions. Jacket toned to white rear panel and foxed to reverse with small nicks & creases to spine tips. A Very Good copy overall in like jacket. A novel exploring the effect of war on a group of English people, written under the Author's given name rather than her better-known nom-de-plume of Ellis Peters. Scarce.
