Wheeling, VA [now WV]: Joshua Martin / John B. Wolff, 1848. Revised edition. Hardcover. Good. Octavo, 720pp., frontispiece and teal-colored tissue guard intact. In good condition only in contemporary full sheep with black morocco spine label (worn). Leather dry and worn, with some discoloration to front board. Mild internal foxing, though the contents are generally clean. Contemporary writing to endpapers, and there is a sticker to front paste-down and a pocket to the rear paste-down, though positively no indication of this having ever been a library book. A serviceable reading or reference copy of this uncommon Wheeling imprint.

Philadelphia: Joseph Rakestraw. Fair with No dust jacket as issued. 1816. Third Edition. Leather. Appears to be two fair sized areas of worm damage to the upper spine. The textblockk is almost loose of the covers. Endpapers are missing, but the engraving of Lorenzo is present. Pages are heavily foxed. ; 7 1/2"; 600 pages .

Part 1 is 354pp. The Polemical Works. is also date 1814 and is 300pp. There are two engravings between the two books and one of them is about half lacking. Moderate, with occasional heavy wear. Moderate-heavy foxing. Partial signature on endpaper appears to be dated 1814. 1 flyleaf lacking at front, most of back flyleaf and free endpaper lacking at back. Still quite tight and legible, in original calf binding. Photos on request. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Hardcover. Fair+.

Corrected and enlarged. 8vo, publisher's old calf, red spine label, very good, some rubbing and light wear to binding, old Mechanic's Institute bookplate on pastedown and some writing on endpapers, old blank paper label at head of spine, text very good but with usual tanning. 554 pp. We noted that at the time of this listing, another bookseller noted frontispieces of Dow and his wife in an 1815 edition, but research shows that this was published without such frontispieces and our copy is complete and not lacking anything.

Previous owner book plate of John Townsend, Baltimore 1830 on front paste down. The second volume is titled "All the Polemical Works of Lorenzo, Published by John C. Totten 1814. Corrected and improved by the author. The appendix titled "A Journey of Life by Peggy Dow is not included in this copy. At the bottom of page 359 in the appendix the publisher states, "the Appendix by Peggy Dow, mentioned in the Proposals, is in a separate volume - this being so much more than was contemplated - though both for the same price to subscribers, according to the statement."
