Description:
1853 Daimonion Spiritual Medium Demons Ghosts OCCULT Salem Witchcraft Samson

George W Samson was a Reverend in Washington City who published many works including 'To Daimonion' in which he explains the phenomena of 'spiritual rappings' or 'spiritual knockings' through the 'nervous principle,' and animal magnetism. His attempt to explain clairvoyance, trances, second-sight, kinesis, and others comes from his thought that the 'daimonion' (the demon), is the spirit of the universe, which when excited causes these phenomena to occur. He uses quotations from Herodotus, Xenophon, Cicero, Pliny, and others to try and illustrate how all of these people were discussing the same thing and simply were conduits being used when the demon or spirit of the universe got excited, which could be done consciously or subconsciously by a person.

This 1853 edition was controversial with reviews which said it was
"the most ingenious and intelligent discussion of what has been termed "modern Spiritualism" while others… Read More

1819 Kingdom of Naples 1st ed Calabria Ulteriore Travels Voyages Girace Brigands

"Occurrences During a Six Months' Residence in the Province of Calabria Ulteriore, in the Kingdom of Naples, in the Years 1809, 1810" by Lieut. Philip J. Elmhirst, offers a detailed account of the author's experiences and observations during his six-month stay in the Calabria Ulteriore province. Beginning with a harrowing shipwreck off Cape Stillo and the crew's subsequent detention by the local authorities, the narrative delves into the author's interactions with the inhabitants, the customs, and the landscape of the region. Elmhirst provides insights into the influence of French principles on the Roman Catholic-dominated populace, describes his travels across notable cities such as Girace and Casal-Nuovo, and sheds light on the dire state of regions affected by past earthquakes. A recurring theme is the oft-oppressive behavior of the French towards the local populace, from levying harsh contributions to the treatment… Read More
