About This Item
London: Chapman and Hall, 1880. Second Edition - Fifth Thousand. Hardcover. Very Good +. WITH DEDICATEE'S INSCRIPTION. 8vo, olive, crushed full-leather, gilt device and gilt single-ruled front cover , raised bands and gilt on spine, decorated dentelles, aeg. Volume I: 1833 - 1856; Volume II, 1857-1870. Dickens's eldest daughter, Mary Dickens, known as Mamie, and Dickens's sister-in-law Georgina Hogarth, who dedicated the work to Dickens' youngest surviving daughter (and apparently Dickens's favorite), artist Katherine Perugini, known as Kate. On the dedication page, Kate has inscribed the book: "To Mrs. Eaton With kind love, from Kate Perugini 6th Aug. 1880". Spines a wee browned, hinges showing some wear, internals quite nice. A solid copy, uncommonly found with Dicken's younger daughter's signature.
