About This Item

N.p.: N.p., 1973. Collection of 86 QSL cards from 45 countries, housed in a 32 page generic scrapbook binding, from dedicated radio enthusiast Mark Murphy, 1954-1973, the majority of which dates from the late 1950s. The majority of the QSL cards are addressed to Murphy, at various addresses in New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.

QSL cards were sent by radio stations as confirmation of the receipt of a "reception report" from a listener, officially acknowledging and verifying the reception, and were popular to collect among radio enthusiasts as early as the 1920s. The archive on offer presents a diverse collection, both in the graphics of each card and the expansive geographical reach, extending throughout Europe, Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and Oceania, as well as a single card from Mexico. A striking international time capsule from the Cold War era.

Detailed inventory upon request.

Countries represented in the archive: Africa: Egypt, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Nigeria, the Republic of the Congo, Senegal, South Africa, and Tunisia. Asia: India, Japan, Pakistan, Philippines, and Sri Lanka. West Asia and Middle East: Israel, Lebanon, and Turkey. Europe: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Italy, Finland, Germany, Greece, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and Yugoslavia. North America: Mexico. Caribbean: Haiti and Jamaica. South America: Argentina, Brazil, Columbia, and Brazil.

Scrapbook binding with transparent front wrapper: 9.25 x 11.5 inches. Near Fine.

QSL Cards: approximately 5.5 x 3.5 to 6.5 x 4.75 inches. Near Fine overall, many with a tiny piece of cello tape on one edge.
