[This sensational photo archive documents the African big game hunting safaris of Colonel Francis Colby in East Africa, the Belgian Congo, French Cameroon, and Ethiopia in the 1930s, filled with images of natives, native villages, sweeping landscapes filled with game, trophies down, as well as images of gazelle, elephants, rhinos, herds of giraffe, crocodiles, and many other wild game. Colby was famous for his well-outfitted safaris, including masses of medical supplies which he would distribute to native villages as he trekked through the bush. He is now best remembered for the Colby Trophy Room which opened at the Boston Science Museum in 1965, and re-created his trophy den in Hamilton, MA, including the enormous elephant doors from the palace of the Sultan of Witu, with pelts, mounted heads, horns, and antlers, and more lining the walls].

The photographs reveal the prize-winning window display designs at department stores, along with fashion trends for clothing, and the marketing of appliances, household goods, women’s lingerie and sanitary products from before World War I until the Mid-20th Century, by Ray Whitnah, and later his Display Products Co. in St. Louis, Missouri. [An extraordinary photo and photo negative archive visually documenting the historical archaeological surveys undertaken by Lockwood and Rossie Frost on the Bond Homestead, Kalahikiola Church (erected by the Bond family) south of Kapaau, Hawaii in Kohala, Hawaii originally established in 1841 by Boston missionary Reverend Elias Bond. The majority of the photos focus on the house interior, room appointments, artwork, objects, household goods, medical equipment, documents, and more purchased and used by Dr. Benjamin Bond, son of Elias Bond who substantially added to the home, updating and revising, as well as adding several buildings from 1884 through the early 1900s. [An extraordinary typescript archive of heretofore unpublished and unedited Civil War letters which reveal the abolitionist passions and growth of a young cavalry officer from his enlistment in the Army of the Potomac until his tragic death at the Battle of Five Forks. The young Guilford, Connecticut farmer & part time book salesman left his studies at Yale, serving and surviving the pivotal battles of the Second Bull Run, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, the Wilderness, Spotsylvania Courthouse, and Cold Harbor, often while recording the everyday drudgery and horrors of the War, frustrations with the officers, and his own financial and personal struggles. These letters, documents, and diary entries were preserved and transcribed by the family of Capt. Uriah Nelson Parmelee of the 1st Connecticut Cavalry from the originals, many of which were later sold to Duke University as part of the Samuel Spencer Parmelee papers.
