Description:
London: Printed by W. Wilson for George Sawbridge 1664. 8vo. [Eighth edition]. [viii], 80, 73-188 pp. Full recent brown calf with blind-stamped decorative borders to boards; raised bands and red leather author and title labels, with gilt lettering and ruling to spine; brown cloth slipcase with gilt-lettered red leather label to its spine. Minimal scratching to calf. The odd small closed tear or chipping to edges of leaves and a small hole at each of pages 61 and 160. Light spotting, though quite clean overall. This work was a bestseller and was published many times during the 17th century, providing recipes for medicines and more everyday fare. The British Library notes that although the title implies a female audience, only around 10% of women were literate at the time of publication and so most of this work's readers were clergymen or men of the gentry. Wing M633; ESTC R221468 . Near Fine. Blind-stamped Full Calf. Eighth Edition. 1664.
