(En Madera.) Bosquejo De Sus Condiciones Y Rasgos De Su Evolución.
A Limited Edition, numbered 266 of 514 total copies, signed by the Author. Thick 4to, several plates and illustrations in the text, hand–coloured initials. Bound in the Publisher's half vellum gilt, uncut, decorative spine labels, decorative endpapers. Published in Madrid for the Author, 1920.
The corners of the binding a little rubbed, the hinges reinforced, clean internally. A very good copy.
This work is one of the finest productions on Spanish naval architecture and shipbuilding from the 16th to 18th century, and particularly documents the architecture of the old Spanish wooden battleships and galleons. It was following a series of conferences held at the Ateneo de Madrid in May 1914 that this work came to be published (Palau 1, 521.)

Description:
First Authorised Edition. 8vo, pp. xi, [1], 9-251, [1], title, half-title, bound in contemporary calf, re-backed. Printed for A. Millar (London), 1749.

A clean copy, the boards a little worn; a near fine example.

Bolingbroke was an English Tory politician and political philosopher who supported the 1715 Jacobite rebellion of 1715 which failed to overthrow King George I. Following the failed rebellion, he escaped to France and wrote his political tracts, where he argued for political partisanship to cease and the balancing of the constitution. Initially written in 1738 for the Prince Of Wales, Bolingbroke entrusted his friend and English Poet, Alexander Pope with the manuscript. However, to Bolingbroke's anger, Pope secretly published 1,500 copies of "The Idea of a Patriot King". In this first authorised edition, without naming him, Bolingbroke reproaches Pope for his "breach of trust". Bolingbroke purchased the entire edition published by Pope and had it burnt in 1744; with only two flawed copies… Read More

Inscribed in blue pen by Robert Frost to his cousin Joseph Frost on the front cover, "Robert to Joseph".
WorldCat locates just three institutional holdings. Rare thus, and even more so inscribed with this noteworthy association.
A fine example.
Joseph William Pepperrell Frost (1923-2008) was a historian and writer from Maine who, throughout his life, would share a close bond with his cousin Robert. With about fifty years between them, the two first met when Joseph was a young boy during Robert and Elinor's visit to the Frost ancestral home in the late 1920s. Later, Joseph's college years would be marked with frequent visits to stay with his cousin, even accompanying… Read More
