Signed, numbered, and titled in pencil; a wood engraving on what appears to be Japanese mulberry paper. Folder: 12 3/4 x 16 inches; Accompanying text is by the artist. Image is 6 x 7 5/8 inches. Print is a fine impression in very good condition, has slightest bit of mat toning and remnants of original glue where it had been attached to the folder. Slight split in folder has been reinforced with Japanese archival tape. This print is in numerous major US museums as well as a number of international collections. NOTE - DOES NOT INCLUDE THE VOLUMES Each case consists of a folding linen covered protective envelope which slides into an outer case. The outer case has stout tan linen covered sides with a back of first grade pigskin. The back has been shaped into what looks like four separate volumes with the "The Colophon" and year as well as the numbered parts in the case all scored and blind stamped. All the cases were handmade on order. As per images of ads included, The Colophon did not produce the cases; they just facilitated the ordering and handed the proceeds to Peter Franck. Consists of newsletters, The Colophon Crier, subscription notices, envelopes, prospectus for subscribers and other promotional leaflets. The pieces have has been organized in clear plastic marked folders that are believed to correspond to the volumes the ephemera was sent out with. In some cases the same notice had been collected in variant colored paper. Includes a wood-engraving of Pascin by Ganso and a self-portrait by Howard Cook, both believed to have been printed from the block but no guarantees on this. All Near Fine to Fine except for: the pre-publication notice has some toning; the 1932 Announcement (contents fine but the string bound folder is fragile and starting to split); both newspaper clippings have yellowed; and one envelope where the glue seems to have adhered to something. Self? date unknown. 1st Edition . Portfolio Box. Very Good. Paul Honore. Signed by Illustrator(s). A very unusual item. Paul Honore (1885-1956) was an important American printmaker, muralist and illustrator who lived and worked in Detroit for most of his career. To illustrate how a four coloured print is made, Honore printed each of the 4 blocks separately and then printed the colours on top of each other to achieve the final print. The individual sheets and a short treatise on engraving are held in a folder with the finished print on top. A cutout on the front cover with a clear plastic sheet allows one to view the finished print. Near fine mailing box with some smudges. The folio box is near fine with very minor rubbing on spine. The box appears to be covered in a coated, cloth embossed material that is coloured to appear as leather.The prints have spotting as can be seen in the photos. Size (9 x 12") will require an adjustment on shipping price.
