Bound in original tooled green cloth over boards with gilded lettering on the spine. Some fraying and rubbing at edges and corners, slightly cocked. Top edge gilt (slightly dulled with age), gatherings visible with some appearing looser but all holding firmly. Bookplates from contemporary owner on front pastedown, additional bookplate on rear pastedown. Brown endpapers with some wrinkling at the hinge of the front and some chipping to same along hinge and a chip in rear free endpaper. Old bookseller notes in pencil on ffep verso. Minor rubbing to edges and corners of jacket. Black cloth over boards with faded bronze lettering and design on the spine. Gentle bump at head of spine, otherwise square and solid. Sung at the Completion of Concord Monument, April 19, 1836," and contains the immortal line, "...and fired the shot heard round the world." Bound in half green boards and marbled paper with gilded lines. Five gently raised bands on spine with gilded desings and a red leather label will gilded lettering. Worn and rubbed at the edges and along hinges. Solid and square binding. All edges marbled, top edge a little darker. Marbled endpapers. Signatures from former owners in ink on first blank. A few minor spots internally (infrequent and marginal), overall a very clean, clear, and solid copy. With bound in errata, without ads at the rear, and with one blank at front and rear. Lakewood: Centipede Press, 2013. First Thus. New. First Edition Thus from the Centipede Press, in original shrink wrap and jacket. Due to shrink-wrap, limited photos are available. A haunted-dwelling tale of suspense, this was the first full length novel published by Arkham House. At first, it was a failure of the publishing house, only to become increasingly popular over time. This edition contains the additional 20,000 word prologue first printed in the U.K. edition in 1950. Additionally includes other works by the author. Signed by jacket artist, J. K. Potter, illustrator Roger Gerberding, foreword author Douglas A. Anderson, and Darrell Schweitzer who is providing a new afterword. No visible issues. Shrink wrap is a little loose and delicate with some stickers on the back indicating number 156 of 200; has a small tear on one corner, no impact to jacket or covers.  Pages: 368     Dimensions: 9¼ x 6¼ x 1⅜.

Contemporary ink notations appearing to be in the author's own handwriting, and is deccribed in pencil inside front cover. First blank present. Armorial bookplate inside front cover. Four portraits ahead of each section; the portrait of John Donne acts as the frontispiece. Previous owners signatures on first blank and on title page. May have been a presentation copy. Bound in sheep leather ruled in gilt with five raised bands and replaced brown leather spine with label in gilt. Rebacked, corners bumped and rubbed with boards showing and other edgewear. Remains tightly bound. Pages are mostly clean and clear with sporadic foxing and soiling. Housed in a custom clamshell case with marble covers and leather spine with title, city, and date on spine.
