Boston: Ticknor and Fields, 1863. First Edition. Very Good. First edition, first state with all indications of first state including, "nearly ready" on p. 11 of the rear advertisements. Bound in original tooled green cloth over boards with gilded lettering on the spine. Some fraying and rubbing at edges and corners, slightly cocked. Top edge gilt (slightly dulled with age), gatherings visible with some appearing looser but all holding firmly. Bookplates from contemporary owner on front pastedown, additional bookplate on rear pastedown. Brown endpapers with some wrinkling at the hinge of the front and some chipping to same along hinge and a chip in rear free endpaper. Old bookseller notes in pencil on ffep verso. Even toning and minor foxing, text and pictures (frontispiece photograph of the Inn, and pictoral title page - separated by tissue) are clean and clear.  Pages: (4) (8) 225 (3) (22 ads) (4)     Dimensions: 7¼ x 5 x 1  .

Bound in half green boards and marbled paper with gilded lines. Five gently raised bands on spine with gilded desings and a red leather label will gilded lettering. Worn and rubbed at the edges and along hinges. Solid and square binding. All edges marbled, top edge a little darker. Marbled endpapers. Signatures from former owners in ink on first blank.
