London: Tho. Newcomb for Richard Marriott, 1670. 1st Edition. Very Good. First collected edition of these biographies by Izaak Walton. Contemporary ink notations appearing to be in the author's own handwriting, and is deccribed in pencil inside front cover. First blank present. Armorial bookplate inside front cover. Four portraits ahead of each section; the portrait of John Donne acts as the frontispiece. Previous owners signatures on first blank and on title page. May have been a presentation copy. Bound in sheep leather ruled in gilt with five raised bands and replaced brown leather spine with label in gilt. Rebacked, corners bumped and rubbed with boards showing and other edgewear. Remains tightly bound. Pages are mostly clean and clear with sporadic foxing and soiling. Housed in a custom clamshell case with marble covers and leather spine with title, city, and date on spine. In addition to these biographies, Izaak Walton is best remembered for his work, The Complete Angler.
