This is one of 25 copies on Holland hors commerce and lettered O of a total 132 copies printed. Inscribed by the author to the secretary of the Comedie Française, Jean Valmy-Baisse. A collection of 7 poems by the polymath Paul-Gustave Van Hecke (1887-1967), a Belgian poet and art patron, who was associated with the surrealists, especially Magritte, Ernst and Man Ray. The poems are accompanied by 7 striking hand-coloured pochoir plates by Géo Navez (1890-1975), a central figure in the artistic avant-garde in 1920s Belgium. Buenos Aires: El Ateneo, 1947. This is one of the most extensive colour atlases. This massive and elaborate work was an attempt to create a complete colour order system to satisfy most or all practical needs. The 7,279 colour samples each have an off-center hole of 4mm in diameter to aid in visually comparing them to other colour materials. A scarce book, published in a numbered and stamped-signed edition. A light waterstain to the right hand margin of the preliminary text plates affecting the margin of the first colour plate, otherwise very good.
