Southern Historical Press, Inc., 2016. Book. New. Soft cover. By: Frederick Van Clayton, Pub. 1988, Reprinted 2016, 112 pages, Index, ISBN #0-89308-639-8. The author prepared this book as part of the requirement for the completion of a Master¿s degree, but it remains the most useful reference available on the early settlement of the Pendleton District. After finding 95% of all land grants available to him in the Pendleton District up to 1800 and locating the majority of them on maps, most of these are presented here for the researcher. The author does an excellent job of ascertaining the origin of the settlements of Pendleton District, with there being two main sources of immigration into the District, namely removal of within the State from south to north and other influxes of moving there from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina and Georgia. The author also takes people living at various points of South Carolina as found in the 1790 census and shows which of these moved later…

Description:
Southern Historical Press, Inc., 1999. Soft cover. New. No Jacket By: Larry Vehorn, Pub. 1999, 134 pages, Index, ISBN #0-89308-719-X. This book is transcription of the minutes of the Baptist Church at New Prospect from the founding in 1820 until 1855. The earliest minutes for this church were lost in a fire. Sometime after 1858, an ancestor of the author copied the minutes and that copy is the basis for this work. Many families who lived in Upper Spartanburg County are well represented in the minutes. Church minutes are often the only record for families who lived briefly in an area. Also is a survey of the over 1,000 tombstone inscriptions in the church cemetery.

Southern Historical Press, Inc., 2004. Hardcover. New. No Jacket By: Larry Vehorn, Pub. 2004, Hard cover, 248 pages, Hard Cover, Index, ISBN #0-89308-728-9. These abstracts of Deeds begin with the creation of the county court system in South Carolina, 1785. Laurens county was created out of the Old Ninety-Six District of S.C., which at one time comprised the entire Upstate. Laurens county was one of the major paths of migration into South Carolina as well as from S.C. to Georgia, Alabama and points West. Deeds are a wonderful source for genealogical research due to the many family members being mentioned within. Even though these deeds begin with the creation of the court system, there are deeds within this book that go back to as early as 1769. This book is even of more importance to the researcher since S.C. did not officially record Vital Records until the year 1911.
