Douglas Boatman's La Nekonata Konato is a mystery novel, first published in 1932 by Heroldo de Esperanto, Cologne, and this second edition os a photographic reproductrion of the first edition. The author was born in 1892, and servied in the Great War in Gallipoli , Egypt , Palestine , France and Belgium . In 1926 he became the first president of the Esperanto Society of Southend-on-Sea and in 1928 the first secretary of Rotary Friends of Esperantists. A series of essays on French and English art history from the seventeenth century in France to the nineteenth century in England, Scottish art as a prelude to the birth of Impressionism, the modern movement (Cezanne, Van Gogh, Gaugin etc), and on to other art forms such as Russian ballet and modern art, stained glass, Aboriginal theme in ceiling designing, mosaics etc. The book is illustrated with monochrome plates, and the colour frontis. Condition: The cloth binding is rather rubbed and there are a few spots of foxing to the pages' top edge but the contents are in good order and the book remains in strong readable condition.

As well as the introductory essay, it carries 15 drawings from Peter de Francia. In Ashton's essay she places de Francia within a humanistic tradition of draftsmen as freedom fighters stretching from Goya to Guttuso, via Beckmann, Picasso and Grosz. There are shades, too, of a distinctly British tradition of caricature, of Hogarth and Rowlandson, in de Francia's pointed social satire. Disbound from a larger work. 33 × 24.5cm. 5pp. Duncan Gray & Lewie Gordon, a piece for harp and piano, arranged from William Reeve's Oscar & Malvine (though Reeve had to finish this work after it was started by Covent Garden's house composer, William Shield, who left abruptly). It was first performed in 1791, this piece would have been published between 1791 and 1819, which was when the publisher, Robert Birchall, was at his premises at 133 New Bond Street. Condition: As mentioned, and as is usual for music of this age, the sheets are disbound. There is some age-related toning but the score remains readable and the plate marks are visible. There is some edgewear to the pages' fore-edge but otherwise this remains a good early printing.

Disbound from a larger work. 32 × 23.5cm. 5pp. The harp music for Two Spanish Boleros by French harpist and composer Philippe-Jacques Meyer. This piece undated but entered in Stationers Hall in May 1810, and fitting with the publisher's address of 133 New Bond Street where Birchall operated from between 1791 and 1819. Condition: Fair condition. As mentioned, and as is usual for music of this age, the sheets are disbound. There is age-related tanning to the pages but the print and plate marks are readable.Page 3 has some wear to the fore-edge but not affecting text and page 3-5 has a small hole in the lower margin, the last page with some loss over the stave but it doesn't look like any notes have been erased. There is some smudging to the text on the final page but otherwise this remains a good early printing.

Disbound from a larger work (with red taped binding) 30.5 × 23cm. 23pp. Meyer's four lessons for the harp was originally published in the 1770s, this printing dates from post-1824 which is a few years after Birchall's death and when his business premises moved from 133 New Bond Street to 140 New Bond St. This piece consists of four sonatas, two in E major, and two in F major. Condition: Good condition for age. As mentioned, and as is usual for music of this age, the sheets are disbound, though there has been an attempt to tape it to the spine (this has now started to perish). There is some age-related toning throughout with the bottom corner snipped from the front and first page but without loss of text. The score remains readable and the plate marks are visible.

The ten engravings are housed in a leather folder which is itself in a card box. The folder measures 26 × 18.5cm. 10 loose mounted engravings, one page of limitation details. Text in Polish, English and French. A delightful collection of wood-engravings of old Warsaw by Polish artist Eugeniusz Pichell (1905-1976). The engravings are: 1. Nike of Warsaw, 2. Castle Square, 3. Piwna Street, 4. The Barbicane, 5. Waski Dunaj Street, 6. The Market Place, 7. The Roofs of the City, 8. the House "Under the Ship", 9. The Church of Our Lady, and 10. Royal Palast "Lazienki". Condition: The leather folder and all ten plates are in excellent condition (though there is a little browning to the inside top edge of the folder). The box is scuffed and marked but has done a good job in keeping the plates and folder clean. A lovely set.

First published 1919, this is a collection of 32 soldiers' songs gathered by the Italian poet Piero Jahier whilst he was a volunteer in the trenches of the Great War. They have been harmonised by Italian composer, conductor and musicologist Vittorio Gui. Condition: This copy is in good condition for age. There is a neat taped reinforcement to the top of the spine, and light scattered foxing to the covers. The rear cover has some red ink stains but they haven't penetrated.
