Wesblock: The Autobiography of an Automaton by H.M. Walters follows the life and experiences of an average man, as related by himself in humorous prose. The narrative touches upon various facets of his existence, including family and career. Particularly he comments on his time spent in the civil service.
The author notes in the preface that, "This work is in the form of a book. Outwardly a book, it is not a book in the ordinary sense. It is only an artless yarn. Wesblock is a common type, and he writes himself as he knows himself or thinks he knows himself."
Further, the author concludes the preface, writing: "Finally it may be as well to warn the Preface-reader that this is a story without a plot and without a hero."
This book is in good condition. There are stains to the fabric on the cover, and the colour of the spine has faded. There is some mild foxing internally, but it is not signigicant and does not seem to touch the text. The binding is tight, though there is a slight lean.

Part of the set of the Uniform Edition of the Plays of J.M. Barrie published by Hodder and Stoughton, London, this attractive edition of Barrie's play Mary Rose is bound in soft blue leather with gilt lettering to the spine and a gilt device made of the initials J.M.B on the cover. This volume is in Good condition, with some bumping to the corners, and the leather worn on the top corners of the covers. In addition, the leather at the top and bottom of the spine is very worn, and there is some slight damage on the back cover from a previous price sticker. There is a blue ribbon bookmark, but it is detached. Still, a very attractive and collectable edition of one of the theatrical works of the Peter Pan author.

This is a fascinating piece of ephemera, especially for fans of J.M. Barrie. A broadsheet insert from the December 24, 1931 edition of the London Time, contains Barrie's tale "Farewell Miss Julie Logan," which he wrote specifically for publication in the Times and which was the last work of prose fiction written by the Peter Pan author. Inspired by the folklore and history of Scotland, the story tells of a young man's enchantment by the spectre of Julie Logan, a Jacobite heroine thought to have given refuge to Bonnie Prince Charlie. This copy is pamphlet bound with red string and is in excellent condition given its age, with some staining to the paper wrappers, and some small tears and unevenness to the edges. The text inside is clean with no significant blemishes. There are 6 pages of text, as well as a folio of advertisements, one a fundraising campaign for The Hospital for Sick Children on Great Ormond St and another for subscribing to The Times.

Bound in lovely, soft blue leather, with gilt lettering to the spine and gilt stylised initials of J.M.B. on the cover, this is a beautiful edition of one of the theatrical works of the author of Peter Pan. There is also gilt edging to the tops of the pages, and beautiful grey marbling to the pastedown and flyleaves. There is some slight damage to the back cover from a previous price sticker, and the leather at the corners of the covers has been worn away slightly. The blue ribbon bookmark while present has become detached. A beautiful, collectable edition.

Inspired by the Mazinaw pictographs in Bon Echo Provincial Park, this is a collection of poetry based on the lives of various individuals who lived in this part of the world. Part I focuses on the Indigenous peoples of the area; Part II includes poems about Mary Merrill "the Little Mystic of Belleville" and Billa Flint "lumber baron of limitless greed"; and Part III focuses on the life of Flora MacDonald. Ultimately, MacKinnon has created a "dazzling tapestry of lives and legends, a unique poetic achievement."
This volume is in good condition, with some discolouration to the front cover and particularly the spine. There are no significant internal blemishes, however.

Volume XXI of the twenty-four volume set of the works of Thackeray published by Smith, Elder, & Co., containing a collection of Thackeray's ballads as well as the fantastical work of satire The Rose and the Ring. This volume is in Good condition. It has green fabric covering the boards, with a stylised embossing of the author's initials on the front cover, which is also decorated with lovely board designs in black. There is an embossed design on the back cover, and a gilt title and author name on the spine, accompanied by further embossed designs in black. There is some wear, particularly around the edge, of the green cloth covering the boards, and there is a slight lean. There is also some minor cracking to the front hinge, and the pastedowns have worn away in some areas on both the front and back hinges. A copy of the first English translation of Thomas Mann's Early Sorrows, done by Helen Tracy Lowe-Porter (1876-1963), who is most notable for having been the translator for most of Thomas Mann's works for their first appearance in English. This volume features attractive black and red marbled covers, which have some discolouration on the front in particular. There is a small paper title label on the spine which is also damaged. There is also some damage to the fabric and board of the spine. This edition features endpapers with a whimsical floral motif. There is the signature of a previous own on the front flyleaf.

This is a beautiful, illustrated edition of Swann's Way, the first volume of Proust's seven volume continuous novel, In Search of Lost Time
This is the translation by C.K. Scott Moncrieff (1889-1930), a Scottish writer and translator who was best known for his translation of Proust's work.
In addition, this volume includes an introduction by Justin O'Brien (1906-1968), a professor of French at Columbia University. His biographies and translations of notable French authors, including Gide and Camus, were responsible in large part for popularising French writers in the U.S.A.
This edition also includes beautiful illustrations by Bernard Lamotte.
This copy is in good condition. The fabric on the spine is faded, and there is some discolouration to the fabric on the back cover. Internally, the book is in excellent condition, with a tight binding.
The slipcover is in poor condition. There is significant wear to the edges and corners, and one end has separated, though it still holds the book.

Following on from volume I, this second volume of Places in Ontario by Nick and Helma Mika continues to present the origins of the names of various regions in Ontario as well as their histories. A fascinating reference book for those interested in Ontario history or even genealogy.

Joaquin Miller was an American journalist and poet. He is best known for his collection of poems about the old west called Songs of the Sierras, which provided a romantic portrayal of the American west and was particularly popular in England.
This copy is in Good condition. The spine is rather faded and there is some bumping and wear to the boards. There is an embossed stamp from Buckley's English & American bookstore on the title page. There is also a small tear on the title page. The back pastedown also has a sticker from Buckley's English & American Book Stationary & Music Store. There is some foxing to the pages, but overall the text is entirely legible despite some age-related discolouration to the pages.

Songs of the Sierras was the most notable work of American journalist and poet Joaquin Miller (1837-1913). The work was incredibly popular in England for its romantic portrayal of the Old West, though was less popular for the same reason in the US.
This copy is in Good condition. There is wear to the brown cloth covering the boards, and significant bumping to the edges of the boards. The gilt on the spine is quite faded. This copy has dark grey/green endpapers which have notes in pencil from previous authors, and exhibit some wear and small tears. There is foxing to the pages, and one of the initial pages has remnants of a pencil note that has been erased. Page 13 has a stain of some kind, but it does not make any of the text illegible, and otherwise the pages are clear and legible save for some age-related discolouration. Kenneth G. Mills began his career as an acclaimed concert pianist, before receiving inspiration that led him to devote his life to the production of spiritual insights that he said came from the heart. Anticipations is the second volume in a trilogy of books of his best poetry, drawn from the almost 3000 examples of his spontaneous musings. Many of these were also set to music and performed by the Star-Scape Singers, a choir that Mills himself formed. The text is accompanied by beautiful line illustrations.

A classic adventure story centred on an ancient castle in the Welsh mountains. The book itself is Very Good. There is significant foxing to the first few interior pages and to the page edges, but the text is all clear and the pages clean. The binding is tight. The dust jack is present and in Fair condition, with some tears and foxing on the inside.

Muhammad Iqbal, also known as Allama Iqbal (b. 1877) is the national poet of Pakistan. Having studies philosophy, English literature, and Arabic, he would go on to write the famous Sare Jahan se Achccha Hindostan Hamara which was taken up as a national expression of opposition to the British Raj in India in particular, but also in what is now Pakistan and Bangladesh as well.
He is known for his poetry in Urdu and Persian, and so emblematic was his poetry of that part of the world that was known as Shair-e-Mashriq, "the poet of the East." In this translation of his Urdu poems into English, Victor Kiernan (1913-2009), who was an emeritus professor at the University of Edinburgh, sought to introduce the work of this important author to the English-speaking world. It contains a selection of poems from all three of Iqbal's Urdu publications, which were chosen so as to provide best a complete picture of that which makes Iqbal's poetry special.

Susan Musgrave is an award-winning Canadian poet and author, known for her challenging and powerful works of prose and poetry. Becky Swan's Book was inspired by the discovery that one of her ancestor's was the last woman executed in England, likely for charges related to the practice of witchcraft. The poems in this book are thus each written from the perspective of witches living on the border between Scotland and England in the eighteenth century. The appearance of the poems in the work contributes to the sense of age and mystery they invoke. The text is presented entirely in a Gothic-style script, and at the end of each poem is found a catchword or catchwords for the poem on the following page, a feature of many manuscripts and early printed books. This is one of a limited edition run of 1000 copies.
