About This Item
Volume XXI of the twenty-four volume set of the works of Thackeray published by Smith, Elder, & Co., containing a collection of Thackeray's ballads as well as the fantastical work of satire The Rose and the Ring. This volume is in Good condition. It has green fabric covering the boards, with a stylised embossing of the author's initials on the front cover, which is also decorated with lovely board designs in black. There is an embossed design on the back cover, and a gilt title and author name on the spine, accompanied by further embossed designs in black. There is some wear, particularly around the edge, of the green cloth covering the boards, and there is a slight lean. There is also some minor cracking to the front hinge, and the pastedowns have worn away in some areas on both the front and back hinges. There is also a stain on a couple of interior pages from a bookmark. There is also foxing on the page edges and on the interior, particularly on the title pages. It also contains a variety of illustrations by Thackeray, Mrs Butler, George du Maurier, John Collier, H. Furniss, G.G. Kilburne, M. Fitzgerad, and J.P. Atkinson. Overall a lovely antique edition of the works of Thackeray.
