Description:
Transition, Paris, 1928. 6.5"x9". No. 13. uncut copy of literary review in original transparent protective wraps, produced in Paris in the twenties. Transition was an experimental literary journal that featured surrealist, expressionist, and Dada art and artists. Founded in 1927 by Paris-based poet Eugene Jolas, it was originally intended to serve as an outlet for experimental poetry, but gradually expanded to incorporate contributions from sculptors, photographers, writers, civil rights activists, critics, and cartoonists. The magazine ran through the spring of 1938, with a total of 27 issues published. Sylvia Beach in her book "Shakespeare and Company," agent for the Journal, refers to 'Transition' as follows : "All the best Anglo-Saxon and European work of the period appeared in it, much of it for the first time. Of all the reviews I came in contact with, 'Transition' was the most vital, the longest-lived, and the review that I felt was most intelligently devoted to the interests of new writing."… Read More
