A single issue of this magazine devoted to topics relating to religion and American Baptists. Included is a first person account of travels in Burma (Myanmar) by Oliver Cutter, recalling his journey upriver by boat from Rangoon, and his encounters with villages and people, usually noting his efforts at dispensing religious literature. Cutter, along with Nathan Brown, established a printing press in Assam in 1836. FAIR/GOOD condition. Moderate to heavy insect wear along the wrapper extremities, with loss along all edges and especially the spine, making the wrappers somewhat tenuously attached. Minor soiling and staining. Bottom edge creased. Scattered foxing in the interior.

This includes sections on interactions and battles with Native Americans, the massacre at Chicago, etc. GOOD+ condition. Cloth faded, with some soiling and scuffing. Scattered foxing in the interior. A bound volume of the first three years of this journal devoted to the study of the Arctic region, including science and natural history. Includes a few pieces on the Inuit, as well as gold, climate, etc. Provenance: signed bookplate of Clark Garber, an educator employed by the US Bureau of Education in Alaska from 1925-27. GOOD condition. General fading, soiling and spotting to the covers. Minor scuffing and edgewear. Paper toned in the interior. Minor dampstaining to the lower edge of the last few issues of the journal.

An account of the airplane journey around the world undertaken by Edward Evans, accompanied by the author, Linton Wells. Wells, a noted US foreign correspondent, documented their record setting time and their brief experiences in countries around the world, including Omsk, Russia; Manchuria, Korea, etc. GOOD condition. Ex-marine historical association library, with a bookplate on the inside front cover. No other library treatments present. Minor scuffing, fading and soiling to the covers. Extremities a bit scuffed and frayed. Light toning to the text block. Some of the photo plates rather foxed.

Geared toward children and teens, this book offers an early history of Australia, New Zealand, Sandwich Islands (Hawaii), The Fiji Islands, Tasmania, the aborigines and many other topics. Australia is broken down into sections on Sydney, Melbourne, Newcastle, the Gold Rush, etc. In POOR/FAIR condition. Remains of brown paper wrapper present at the top of the front and rear cover. Very heavy scuffing and fading to the covers. Some soiling. Moderate edgewear including bumping and scuffing. Heavy wear to the cloth binding. The text is solid with some minor soiling throughout. Several of the pages have been torn and repaired with clear tape. Dampstain present at the top corners of the pages. Overall in POOR/FAIR condition. A reprint of the 1704 London and 1732 Paris edition of this work by Hendrik Hamel, reproducing the text from the original. A account of the shipwreck and subsequent travels of Hendrik Hamel, a Dutch sailor. Hamel provides one of the first European accounts of Korea from firsthand observations, chronicling a nation that up until that point was little known to Europeans. With an historical introduction by Frederic Max, as well as commentary in the margins of the text itself, elucidating on names or other points of history. VERY GOOD condition. Minor fading, mostly to the spine. Light edgewear. Interior clean and solid.

Also included is an account of missionary work in Southern Africa, focusing primarily on the missionary, with a little account of the lives and culture of natives. GOOD condition. Heavy scuffing, fading and some soiling to the covers. A few minor stains present. Heavy bumping, scuffing and wear along the extremities and spine, with some loss of leather. Interior front hinge cracked and beginning to separate. Scattered foxing, soiling and staining in the interior.

Volume 1 only of 3 volumes in the second series, recounting the life of a sailor and the work involved in manning a large ocean going ship. With accounts of trips in the South Seas, to India, etc., primarily focusing on the journey as opposed to the places. Basil Hall was a noted British naval officer, authoring many books on exploration and travel, drawn from his extensive journals. GOOD condition Leather chipped and torn at the head of the spine. with a 1/4 inch piece almost completely detached. Moderate to heavy scuffing along the extremities, mostly affecting the leather. Minor scuffing and fading to the boards. Interior clean and solid with offsetting to the endpapers.

Miriam MacMillan was an American photographer and explorer, married to Donald MacMillan who was also an explorer. GOOD condition. Minor fading, toning and soiling to the jacket. Moderate chipping, tearing and creasing along the extremities. Small area of paper lifted off the top right front corner. Moderate uneven fading to the book. Owner's signature on the first endpaper.

A single issue of this monthly literary magazine, featuring 'Sun-Down Leflare's Warm Spot,' a story written and illustrated by Frederic Remington, as well as 'Days in the Arctic' by Frederick Jackson, chronicling his lengthy stay in a cabin in the North Arctic. This includes account of polar bear hunts, as well as the difficulties living in the Arctic while carrying out scientific observations. With illustrations. This was part of a British expedition to Franz Josef Land in which he and his party carried out various explorations.
