A reprint of the 1704 London and 1732 Paris edition of this work by Hendrik Hamel, reproducing the text from the original. A account of the shipwreck and subsequent travels of Hendrik Hamel, a Dutch sailor. Hamel provides one of the first European accounts of Korea from firsthand observations, chronicling a nation that up until that point was little known to Europeans. With an historical introduction by Frederic Max, as well as commentary in the margins of the text itself, elucidating on names or other points of history. VERY GOOD condition. Minor fading, mostly to the spine. Light edgewear. Interior clean and solid.
