Pages are moderately tanned and thumbed at the edges, with creased corners and foxing. Hinges are cracked, with some exposed netting and a loose binding. Boards have been moderately rub worn. Noticeable shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are bumped and a little frayed Spine ends are crushed, with noticeable splits and chips. Tanning to spine and edges. Boards are bowed. Book has a forward lean. Water marks to boards and spine.

Some scuffing to cover, notably at ends of spine. Cloth beginning to fray at head of spine, corners of front board. Ink smudge at bottom of front cover, along decoration. Boards a little bowed, with top corners slightly bent. Some foxing to endpaper, with pencil marks at front. Photographic frontispiece bent down boarder, but the image is unmarred. Text and plates otherwise pristine, with minor scuffing on title page. Very Good. (Subject: Africa).

HANDSOME COPY OF THIS SCARCE AFRICANA. After spending 25 years as a missionary in Africa, Rev. Roscoe was asked to lead an ethnographic expedition back into the heart of the continent. Under the auspices of the Royal Society and financed by Sir Peter Mackie, Roscoe returned to Central Africa and wrote down the customs and lore of numerous tribes of the region, making a vivid record of their culture before their erosion due to Western settlement and influence.
