Boston: Hilliard, Gray, and Co., 1835. 1st. Hardcover. Bound in half leather with marbled boards. Contains frontispiece map of Nantucket drawn by William Coffin and illustration of "spermaceti" whale. Exterior of leather on front hinge is split, but functionally the binding remains intact, secure, and functional. Wear to extremities, corners through leather, and chip to half of head of spine. Front free endpaper, frontispiece, and title page are secured to binding and front cover, but split at spine from remainder of book. Bottom 1 1/2 inches of title page is split from spine. Otherwise the text block as a whole is tight, bright, and clean, with very minimal foxing here and there. 4 1/2 x 7 1/4 inches. 300 pages plus advertisements at rear.

Macy.  Mansfield:Macy and Pratt. 1880. 2nd edition. 213pp. Illustrated with map as frontispiece and whale print. Hardcover. Green boards soiled and shelfworn along edges and spine ends worn with some chipping. Edge points bumped and worn to boards. Internally, end pages age toned but free of previous owners marks or signatures.  Pages throughout are clean but darkened with age. The binding is tight and hinges intact.  Overall, a very good solid copy.

Very good+ in its near original blue-green, blind embossed cloth covered boards with gilt text on the spine A 12mo measuring 7 1/4 by 4 1/2 inches with the unfortunate fact that the spine has been stamped up-side-down with gilt text. The cloth over the lower tips of the boards and one small spot on the heel of the spine is worn through. tips of the boards and in a few places on The contents are quite clean and free of foxing; however the end sheets do show mild foxing. 300 pages of text followed by 8 pages of ads by the publisher. Illustrated with a frontispiece map (with spots of foxing) of the Island and one plate from an engraving. Wright Howes considers this title "mildly rare". (Howes, M-195; Sabin, 43687)
