McDevitt-Wilson's, Inc, 1900. Hardcover. Very Good/No Dust Jacket. This old children's book is clean, solid and in great shape! The book is undated but is circa 1900. Verse and full-page, full-color illustration of 24 professions. Most are timeless (builder, farmer, carpenter) while others have evolved or obtained new names (clockwinder, bird stuffer, the Dame). Dark blue cloth with illustrated front cover paste-on with title, 52 pages, 24 full-page illustrations, illustrated title and contents pages. This is a hardcover book awesome color illustrations. The binding is strong with all pages firmly attached. The pages are clean with no soiling or writing. There is a dog eared fold mark at the very bottom corner of a few pages. The covers and front paste on illustration are in nice shape with just a hint of edgewear. This old book looks and feels great! We always ship in a sturdy cardboard box!

Child's book that explains and illustrates 24 trades. Cloth-backed pictorial boards, blue spine, cream-coloured pasted-on paper covers. Ninety-nine thick, numbered pages having the text and illustration for each trade side-by-side on a double page, resulting in a blank double page between each trade. Wrinkled and lightly rubbed at head of spine, rubbed and frayed at heel of spine with 5/8 inch tear. Boards rubbed along edges, darkened and smudged. Cracked at ffep and at trade 6 and 8, less so at 10, 16, and 18. Backstrip pulled away from binding. No pages loose - overall book feels fairly stable. Inscription dated 1911 in ink on ffep, pages darkened - particularly around edges - moderately smudged and thumbed, 1/2 inch closed tear at top edge of page 31, 3/4 inch subtle crease on bottom… Read More

London: Grant Richards. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Minus/No Jacket. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" Landscape. Bedford, F.D.; Lucas, E.V. 103pp. 4to. landscape shaped. First edition [1903]. Illustrated by F.D.Bedford and E.V.Lucas and published by Grant Richards. Original publisher's brick-red cloth over paper-covered hard boards. A very good or very good minus copy. Twenty four illustrated examples of working folk (and a horse) - known as toilers to include an ostler and a stevedore. A contemporary pencil inscription of an H. J. Davies to the front paste-down which could be rubbed out. Mostly light scattered finger soiling - for the very most part - not heavy. Splitting to both inner hinges though the the boards remain firm and the gatherings are little shaken. No endpapers - probably as published. Rubbing, shelf wear and predominantly dust-soiling to the boards. A very good or very good minus essentially tight largely clean copy of this charming book.
