Washington: Government Printing Office, 1886. First Edition. Hardcover. Octavo, 96 pages. In Good plus condition. Spine is brown with gilt lettering. Boards have shelf wear, major rubbing, bumping to corners, some sunning to spine, and minor tearing to back cover. Text block has a small paper glued to the front paste down, the first front end paper is partially torn from binding, a small tear and pen signature on the title page, and minor foxing throughout. NOTE: Shelved in Room A. 1373212. Special Collections.

With eight inserted photographic plates and forty-seven foldout plates, some of which are very large. They represent plans of dockyards (Portsmouth, Cherbourg, Dumbarton, Belfast, London, etc.), ships (Riachuelo, Naniwa Kan, Esmeralda, etc.), sections, and more. Chapters include Details, Fittings, and Equipment of Naval Vessels, Torpedo-Boats, Ship-Yard Appliances and Tools, British Private Yards, Management of Work and Employees, Iron and Steel Works, and more. Front hinge a bit weak, cloth shows some faint stains. Internally fairly clean with the occasional smudge and the edges of two of the foldout plates showing some wear and small stains. A good+ copy. ; Octavo.
