A well researched book by someone who obviously knows his subject. Reading the book transports you back to a time and place long since past.It shows you why fishermen - who led wretched lives - had to resort to smuggling.Extreme poverty, hunger and the chance to survive in an age when survival was everything for the poor. All of this activity had to be co-ordinated and by someone who the smugglers knew and trusted. In fact, one of their own, a cornishman born and bred.If you want a fascinating story written with insight I would recommend this book highly.

Tenacious

A rip-roaring yarn from a consummate story teller. Julian Stockwin gets better and better. From his first book Kydd, to the latest, his style has become finely honed and you just want the stories to go on and on.Watch Stockwin closely, in my opinion he ranks up there with Patrick O'Brian and C S Forester.
