Hutchings Book. Acceptable. Hardcover. Poor condition, but sturdily bound. Spine stripped away. Leather binding very edge & shelfworn. First several pages are photographs hand-pasted in with hand-written identifications. There may be a lengthy inscription by Hutchings (I can't tell if it's hand-written or printed). Several pages are advertising for hotels. Publication date not given, but some of the notations accompanying the hand-pasted photos are dated 1897..

Publisher's thick red wrappers, covers with gilt lettering, red cloth tape spine. Gilt quite dulled and some general wear but clean and solid.Fifth edition (so stated on lower left of front wrapper) with the “addenda,” which was added as page [103] in all later editions. The photos are mainly by Fiske and Taber. In this final edition, the publisher finally replaced the easily chipped paper spine with cloth. Hutchings was killed in a stagecoach accident two years after this was published. Foley had taken over the job of issuing guidebooks by then. At the rear of this edition is a color map of Tahiti and a timetable for the Oceanic Steamship Company.Currey & Kruska 182.

Publisher's ochre cloth pictorially stamped in gilt and brown, gilt spine and cover lettering, floral endpapers. Armorial bookplate on front pastedown, spine a bit dulled, minor extremity wear. A very good, clean and tight copy."It covers more fully than any other work of its day every aspect of Yosemite Valley and the Big Trees that could be considered of general interest to visitors. The illustrations are the finest that could be procured at the time" (Farquhar).
