Description:
London: J.M. Dent & Sons, [1910].. Olive cloth, spine stamped in gilt, blind device on upper cover. Foxing, extremities and spine a bit rubbed, with short snags at crown, but a good, sound copy. First edition, second binding, of Pound's first major volume of criticism. This is an interesting association copy, with the ownership signature of Schuyler B. Jackson, dated "15/8/21." A total of 1250 sets of sheets were printed, of which three hundred sets were used for the American issue, and an unspecified number of copies were bound up in this slightly later binding. Cambridge, MA: Riverside Press/Houghton, Mifflin and Company, 1863. First Edition . Full-Leather. Fine. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Georgina Lowell Putnam (1836-1922) was a niece of James Russell Lowell and the daughter of the wealthy industrialist Francis Cabot Lowell, Jr. of the noted mill town of Lowell, Mass. This presentation copy signed, "CLS from GLP March 1885." The handsome book is also signed "Louise Dervey With happy memories from C L Shaw May 1919." C. L. Shaw probably refers to Carlotta Lowell Shaw (Shaw Lowell), daughter of reformer Josephine Shaw (herself a sister of Civil War hero Robert Gould Shaw and the first woman to hold public office in New York City) and Civil War Major and fatal casualty Charles Russell Lowell (1835-1864). Brown, full-leather with five raised bands on spine. Blind-tooled designs of Maltese crosses on boards and spine. A.E.G. Marbled eps. with gilt dentelle design. 71 Pages. Spine has been expertly rebacked by the late master binder, James Tapley, providing a uniform, tight, attractive copy of an extremely scarce book.

Description:
1863 1st ed CIVIL WAR Reign of Terror in Missouri Stars and Bars by Isaac Kelso'Stars and Bars' is a rare 1863 account of the first two years of the American Civil War. Written by Isaac Kelso, 'Stars and Bars' is a piece of historical fiction giving light to the horrors of the Civil War in Missouri, intending to provide Union civilians an understanding of a Southern perspective. The preface states that
"the Northern people have no adequate conception of the actual state of things at the South, and that there is an apathy at the North, from which patriots need to be awakened".
