New York; 1835-1836: Harper and Brothers. Small Octavo. 20 volumes in 10 volumes (title page states 18 volumes in 9) Each book contains two works, each with a separate title page. Engraved frontispieces, engraved title pages and regular title pages. These works by Mrs. Edgeworth are, for the most part, about the lives of the Irish people. While she wrote many books for children, this set has no children's stories. She had been praised for her portrayal of the Irish people by Scott, Lecky, Turgenev, Ruskin and others. Bound in black Morocco decorated in gilt, raised bands with compartments lettered and decorated in gilt, gilt turn-ins, decorative endpapers and all edges gilt. a few minor spots of rubbing, occasional spots of foxing. A very handsome set.
