Contents extremely bright and clean. The book looks unread. Some of the pages have been printed more lightly than others. Sylvanus revised Wood's work - changing the system of classification from that of Linneus to that of Lamarck. With 46 coloured plates of shells.

First edition of this title in the Woodcraft series by one of the founders of the Boy Scouts of America, based on his Sons of Daniel Boone organization (founded 1905), and Seton’s Woodcraft Indians. This work includes sections on constructing your own bow, chipping flint arrow heads, forest fires, poisonous plants, venomous snakes, hiking, cheap camp kitchens, making rope, baskets, bark buckets, and more. When the Boy Scouts of America was formed in 1910, Beard would serve as one of the National Scout Commissioners until his death in 1941. He is also known for having helped his two sisters Caroline “Lina” and Adelia Beard organize the Camp Fire Girls, and served as their president as well. Scarce in original dustjacket.
