About This Item

London:: F.C & J. Rivington, printed by T.C. Hansard,, 1806, 1807, 1808.. First editions. . Hardcover. Very Good. Vol X: (ii), 480, vi; XI: (ii), 474, (iv); XII: (iv), 496, (iv); XIII: (iv), 476, (iv); XIV: (iv), 477, (iii); XV: (ii), (iv), 480pp. A bastion of principle against liberalism and the artifices of the Sectaries, and a fascinating repository of miscellaneous material - including such items as a Letter from Dr Samuel Johnson to a Young Clergyman, and The Dying Scene of Queen Elizabeth. Each volume is followed by an index (except XV, where the index precedes the text), and the last 3 vols are preceded by a 2-page Preface.Contents in very good order, sprinkled edges to text block. Each of the three books bears the armorial bookplate of Robert Chambré Vaughan, and is bound in 19thC half calf with gilt-ruled raised bands and a red lettering-piece, with marbled boards. There is minor damage to one lettering-piece, the head of the spine of the 1806 volume has been eroded a little, and there is some scuffing, but a firm, bright and attractive set.

About Chapel Books

I sell books from a large disused Chapel next to the village duck pond, where I have lived about 40 years: just inland from Dunwich and between Southwold and Aldeburgh. I open 7 days a week, 12-5.
