About This Item
Los Angeles: National Broadcasting Company [NBC], 1935. Vintage publicity photograph of actress Blanche Yurka in costume as Clara Barton for the NBC radio show "Roses and Drums," 1935. With a mimeo snipe on the verso, along with the stamp of Dell Publishing Company.
The radio series initially began by showcasing historical dramas from different periods of American history, but eventually settled on a fictional narrative set during the Civil War, following a Southern heroine caught in a love triangle between a Union and a Confederate soldier. The show was also one of the first series to permit audiences to watch during broadcasts, with the voice actors recording their lines in period costumes. The series ran on CBS from 1932 to 1934, and on NBC from 1934 to 1936.
8 x 10 inches. Near Fine.
