James Oliver's wrote a captivating account of his experiences of the impending disaster on the ship 'The Glide' in his book 'Wreck of the Glide'. The ship struck a reef on March 21, 1831, and dragged its anchor for 8 miles until it finally wrecked on the Fijian Island Vanua Levu. This book includes descriptions of life and manners at the Fiji Islands and their peoples.

This first edition of 'Wreck of the Glide' includes recollections of the Fijiis and Wallis Island and is expounded upon by Dix. Features an account of life and manners at the Fiji Islands.

1766 Japanese Chinese Dictionary Wakan Onshake Shogenjiko Setsuyoshu JAPAN
A rare, 18th century woodblock print dictionary bound in the "fukurotoji (variously translated as "bound-pocket," or "pouch" binding)" style (Keio). Setsuyoshu was a true Japanese language dictionary and entered vocabulary current during its prime in the muromachi period. Each entry gives the kanji (Chinese characters), Japanese pronunciation in katakana on the right, and occasionally adds etymologies and comments on the bottom.

This rare, 1766 dictionary is an early inui (乾) edition which are usually printed in movable type and have more entries and corrections and is comprised of 10 volumes!

This famous chanson de geste was originally written in the 11th-century and is based on the Frankish military leader Roland and the Battle of Roncevaux Pass in 778 during the reign of Charlemagne. This particular work is the 1854 first English edition which was beautifully translated by Anne Marsh-Caldwell from the French translation of Vitet. Masterfully written, this work is a magnificent example of the medieval narrative and literary form of its era.
