Boston: Wells and Lilly, 1819. Leather. Good. Full marbled leather with gilt ruling and ornamentation on the spine. Xxix, 376; viii, 414 pp. Title page calls for charts, but NO charts are bound in, nor can any page numbers for charts be found in the contents of each volume. A history of various countries, kingdoms and empires to border the Black Sea, and the maritime trade between them, as well as other historical events. With a focus on Turkey and Egypt, both historical and contemporary to 1819, recalling items of trade, cultural aspects and other information related to maritime trade. By Henry Alexander Scammell Dearborn, an American politician and author. Dearborn, according to the preface wrote this anticipating the importance of sea trade for the United States in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea area. GOOD condition. General fading, minor soiling and scuffing to the covers. Heavy scuffing to the leather along the extremities, hinges and spines, with some loss of leather along the hinges. Leather splitting along the front hinge of volume 1. Spine tips pulled and worn. Owner's signature, that of Emily Dearborn Boyd in the front of each. Text blocks solid, with minor scattered foxing.
