New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 1940. Unpaginated, 12 1/2" H. Beaufifully illustrated in colour. When drought strikes a Brazilian native family, they trek to find a new home. Along the way, they encounter Carnauba, a woman turned into a palm tree by the Moon. She instructs the young boy in how to obtain food, drink, shelter, medicine and clothing from the palm and asks him to plant palm nuts in return for her help. Years later, when a plantation grows on what once was desert, the boy carries the nuts of the Tree of Providence to other native Brazilians. A few minor soft wrinkles at top of three pages, three small areas of surface paper loss on boards - at top and botton corner of front board and a little larger on the rear board near hinge, very small tear at top of front hinge, light soiling to boards, scattered light wrinkling and bubbling of paper on boards..
