New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 1940. Limited ed. Hardcover. g. Numbered presentation copy. 4to. Unpaginated. 1/4 white leather over colorfully illustrated paper covered boards with brown and black lettering to cover, within glassine jacket. Seated in burlap slipcase. Mounted-on colored paper card onto slipcase, that reads "Christmas Greetings from Brazil". Scuffing, rubbing and tears to slipcase, with some parts missing. Tears to glassine jacket, which is separated into three pieces, but almost complete. Very minor rubbing, scuffing and staining to boards. Slip attached to title page: "Please accept with the best wishes and season's Greetings of the Publishers this special numbered Presentation copy of THE LEGEND OF THE PALM TREE." Illustrated title page. Wonderful children's book. "The Legend of the Palm Tree has been awarded a prize by the Children's Literature Committee of the Ministry of Education, which has undertaken its publication in order to familiarize the children of Brazil with the folklore of their country." Beautifully illustrated with full-page color drawings throughout. Text in English. Slipcase and glassine in fair, book in very good condition.
