T. Nelson and Sons, London, 1863. 6 1/8" X 4 1/8" in dark green pebble grained cloth with beveled edges and fancy spine and cover decoration. lower right front corner and spine ends fraying. Gilding on cover still bright, but gilding on spine rubbed, although still legible. Front inside hinge just starting to crack. Owner's name and dedication dated 1864 on flyleaf. Owner's ink stamp on title page. Otherwise, a very nice little book overall. Gilt edges, fancy gilt lines surrounding each page of text: GOOD PLUS. 185pp.. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket.
Synopsis
The Lady of the Lake marked the pinnacle of Scott's popularity as a poet. With 25,000 copies sold in eight months, it broke all records for the sale of poetry. Known as a romantic poem, it tells about love and honor amidst a bitter rivalry between King James V and the Douglas family. The book is set in the Trossachs region of Scotland and it is composed of six cantos, each concern the action of a single day.
