Interessante raccolta di due opere di Theophile de Bordeu (1722-1776) medico alla Royal Infirmary a Versailles e della Contessa du Barry, grande amico di Diderot. La prima è l'edizione originale di quella che è considerata una delle più importanti opere nel campo della storia cellulare. Beuret descrive tessuti connettivi sotto il nome di tessuto mucoso mostrando il loro ruolo negli scambi, nel fenomeno della nutrizione ed equilibrio meccanico degli organi e tessuti. L'opera segue le sue prime ricerche sulle malattie croniche (1775) nelle quali espose l'idea di secrezione interna con l'ipotesi che ogni organo, tessuto e cellula scarica nel sangue prodotti che influenzano altre parti del corpo. Title leaf +[6]pp +72, 75-87, [1], 88-89, 89-188 +[2]pp index, text continuous in spite of jumping pagination, lacks final blank leaf but otherwise collated complete. Gathering F has pages bound in wrong order and partially over-printed, making text hard to read. Patent Office Library light blue stamps with royal coat of arms (7 mostly to prelims/at end + on back of title where also Sion College Library stamp with cancel), some light browning, pages else crisp and clean. *Pettus was a royalist and Fellow of the Royal Society who lived at Cheston Hall in Suffolk.
