About This Item
London: R.Hunter & Baldwin, Cradock, and Joy, 1822. Maria Edgeworth (1767-1849) has been called the "Irish Jane Austen." She was famous in her day, and an influence on modern literature in many ways; she also worked tirelessly on relief during the Great Famine. Here are two lovely volumes (II and III only) of one of Miss Edgeworth's most popular works. "Early Lessons" was originally published in 1801; this sequel in 1822. Rebound with green cloth boards; green leather spine, red label titled and ruled with gilt. Clean texts, with minimal foxing; 346 pages and 299 pages; very bright and easy to read. A "Correct List of Mr. and Miss Edgeworth's Works" is appended to the rear. The Title Page is absent, but Quercus believes this to be the First Edition which was published by R. Hunter Baldwin Cradock & Joy; there is a dated inscription from that year, so it is rather unlikely to be later! Size: 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall. First Edition.. Hard Cover. Fine/No Jacket. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.
