Marbled endpapers. 360 pages including index. A collection of La Fontaine's fables in verse. This volume contains a commentary on La Fontaine and the importance of his fables, as well as a life of Aesop. La Fontaine is considered one of the key fabulists, and one of the most influential early French writer, who served not only to inspire and shape French literature, but also fabulists of other countries as well. Minor loss of leather at the head and foot of the spine, with an area of darkening at the foot. Spine is faded and has lost most of its gilt work.
