There is minor wear along the top and bottom spine edges and along the top and bottom edges. A 3" by 3/4" white residue on the front of the DJ remains from a sticker that also advertised the above mentioned book loaner. An historic literary achievement and a rare well preserved 1st edition, 1st printing. Adapted into the classic 1955 Elia Kazan film with the screenplay by Paul Osburn and starring James Dean as Cal, Raymond Massey as Adam, Julie Harris as Abra, and Burl Ives as Sam. Remade as a 1981 Harvey Hart miniseries, penned by Richard Alan Shapiro, with an amazing cast of Timothy Bottoms, Sam Bottoms, Jane Seymour, Soon-Tek Oh, Karen Allen, Warren Oates, Howard Duff, Anne Baxter, Lloyd Bridges, and M. Emmet Walsh.

Synopsis

East of Eden is a novel by John Steinbeck, published in 1952. It tells the multi-generational story of two families, the Hamiltons and the Trasks, in California's Salinas Valley. The novel explores themes of good and evil, love and hate, and the human capacity for both. It also delves into the nature of family dynamics, inheritance, and the American dream. The characters are complex and nuanced, and the novel's narrative structure allows for a deep exploration of their motivations and emotions. East of Eden is considered one of Steinbeck's most ambitious works and a masterpiece of American literature.
