About This Item
Burbank, CA: Warner Brothers, 1975. Vintage Spanish lobby card for the 1975 film.
Based on the 1974 novel by Patrick Mann, in turn based on a true story published in "Life" magazine. An inexperienced robber and his friend attempt to rob a bank, largely in order for the robber's girlfriend, a preoperative transgender woman, to afford gender confirmation surgery. Director Sidney Lumet's masterpiece, a snapshot of New York invoking queer politics, city politics, police politics, personal politics, and the mood of a city in the heat of the early 1970s-all without being overtly political. AMPAS holdings show two copies.
Shot on location in New York.
16.5 x 12.5 inches. Very Good, folded twice, with pinholes at the corners.
National Film Registry. Ebert III. Grant US. Hardy, The BFI Companion to Crime. Lee, The Heist Film. Spicer US.
