London: Thomas Hope, 1760. Leather. Good. 7" by 4.5". Not Stated. An early edition of Izaak Walton and Charles Cotton's noted and influential work on fishing. The first Hawkins edition. In a full calf binding with gilt detail to the spine. With eleven full-page plates, a frontispiece for part two, two plates of music and several vignette illustrations. Lacking the frontispiece of volume one, and plate three. 'The Complete Angler', also titled, 'The Compleat Angler', is Izaak Walton's best known work. It is a celebration of fishing through prose and verse, and was edited and expanded by Walton for over a quarter of a century. The second part of this work is written by Walton's friend and fellow angler, Charles Cotton. With the lives of the authors included, alongside historical notes, critical and explanatory. Rebound in full calf. Externally, a trifle rubbed. Rubbing to the extremities and marks to the boards. Fading to the spine. Light offsetting to the edges of the paste-downs and free endpapers. Internally, binding strained. Lacking the frontispiece and plate 3. Pages xix-xxx are loose, but present. Loss to the upper title page. Pages generally bright and clean with spotting throughout. Ink mark to page 184. Scattered handling marks throughout. Good
