Whereto are added several experiments of the vertue of Gascon powder, and lapis contra yarvam by a professor of physick. As also most exquisite ways of preserving, conserving, candying &c. Includes A true gentlewoman's delight. The Nineteenth Edition. Printed for H. Mortlock at the Phoenix in St. Paul's Churchyard. London: 1687. Nineteenth edition. Red leather covers with black cloth tape-like spine. Pagination runs [18], 190, [2], 191-233, [27], 130 p., MISSING any half title, front and rear endpapers, illustration and MISSING pages 131-140, consisting of the last part of "A True Gentlewoman's Delight." A poor, worn, reading copy only of this compilation of recipes and home remedies, assembled by Elizabeth Grey, Countess of Kent. The remedies were to cure a variety of sicknesses and ailments, while the cooking recipes, put together haphazardly, were for a variety of dishes and meals. POOR condition, MISSING the aforementioned pages. Front cover DETACHED along the hinge. Covers scuffed and worn, with extremities and corners very rounded. Text block solid but rather toned, with scattered foxing, soiling and staining. Rear interior hinge cracked and separating. Last 15 or so page with their top corners browned and chipped, with some loss of text to the last few pages. ESTC R218777.
