About This Item

Beverly Hills, CA: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer [MGM], 1970. Vintage studio still photograph of Edmund Gwenn, Donald Crisp, and Pal (the dog performing as Lassie) from the television release of the 1949 film, circa 1970s.

Based on the 1912 novel "Greyfriars Bobby" by Eleanor Stackhouse Atkinson, which is based on the true story of Greyfriars Bobby, a 19th century Edinburgh Terrier who spent 14 years guarding the grave of his owner. When Lassie's master is killed by robbers, the collie keeps a vigil besides her master's grave, in violation of local dog laws, and her late owner's friend struggle to keep the local police and town magistrate from euthanizing the dog.

Set in 1860 Scotland, shot on location in Greyfriars Churchyard, Edinburgh, Scotland.

8 x 10 inches. Near Fine.
