About This Item

Utrecht: J.J.H. Kemmer, 1874. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Scarce academic dissertation on pre-modern C-section. Orig. blue paper boards, with new spine and printed paper spine label. 62 pp. Boards are age toned, worn to extremities. Laid in article on the history of medicine: Een brief van Jacob Baster (1711-1775) aan Paulus de Wind (1714-1771), Iets over de correspondentie tussen twee Zeeuwse artsen in de 18e eew, by Dra. C.M. Verkroost. The first "modern" Cesarean section was considered to be performed in 1881 (though evidence of the procedure dates back centuries), placing this dissertation prior to several advancements in the technique that vastly improved survival rates for the mother.
