'The Battle of Life' is one of Charles Dickens' famous 'Christmas Books'. First published in 1846, this short novel was published following 'Cricket on the Hearth' and follows the culture in an English village near the site of an historic battle. Dickens describes the struggles of life as a battle; though strangely, Dickens does not include any sort of supernatural or religious themes in this book – a style that differs from that of each of the other 'Christmas Books'.
